Alcatraz

Alcatraz Island – Former Military Fort, Military Prison and High Security Federal Prison. The “Indians Welcome” graffiti is from the “Indian Occupation of Alcatraz” in 1969-1971 when 900 indians from various tribed occupied the island after it closed to demand that unused government land (such as Alcatraz at the time) be given to the Native Americans due to the Treaty of Fort Laramie.
