Kaunas, Lithuania 2011

I went to Kaunas in Lithuania in November 2011. It was a strange choice for a holiday, but being in Eastern Europe meant it was pretty cheap, and very charming. It unfortunately rained most of the time I was there, but on the last day the sun came out which helped with the photos 🙂

There was a strange split between people there, anyone over about 50 would flat out refuse to talk to me (I guess because I was English, and the history of the country), people middle aged would talk to me reluctantly, but younger people couldn’t be more helpful. I eventually got into the habit of having to ask a younger person to talk to the bus drivers to buy my ticket as they flat out ignored me!

Having said that, it was a fantastic place, beautiful (mostly!), charming, affordable and a great holiday. Kaunas was split into two main areas; the Old Town (containing Kaunas Castle, the Town Hall, and various other old buildings, and was exactly how you’d imagine an old Eastern European town) and the New Town which was more modern and contained lots of nice bars selling good food and cheap beer!

Don’t forget to go to the (slightly crazy) Devil Museum!
