During my trip in Croatia, I had previously been visiting Plitvice National Park for a couple of days. I stayed in Plitvice for a few nights before driving on to Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik was a 275mile, 5 hour drive from Plitvice so I decided to plan a stop in Split which was around the halfway mark for a few hours to stretch my legs and have a break.

Split is a town on the east coast of Croatia and is centred around an ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian and its bay and port and thought to be at least 1700 years old.

I didn’t have long in Split as I had to be in Dubrovnik by early evening to return my hire car, so I unfortunately only spent about an hour and a half there, just enough time to walk around and get a feel for the place and grab a drink – not much time for photos! But I did take a few just to give an idea which you can see in the gallery at the top of this page.

Split also had a few really nice bars by the sea perfect for grabbing a drink. Just a shame Croatia have a zero tolerance 0% alcohol drink drive limit, so as I was driving it was just a coke for me!

After visiting split it was onward to Dubrovnik and a drive along some beautiful scenery on the road along the Adriatic Coast.
