Ironbridge

A couple of weeks ago on the way back from checking out the location of a wedding, I decided to visit Ironbridge which was near by.

Ironbridge is on the River Severn, and is often described as the “birthplace of the Industrial Revolution” due to the fact that Abraham Darby perfected the technique of smelting iron with coke, in Coalbrookdale – an area near Ironbride Gorge.

The Iron Bridge there was the first of its kind to ever be made using cast iron, and was built by Abraham Darby III – the grandson of the first Abraham Darby.

Luckily the weather was good! It’s a really nice place, aside from the bridge there are plenty of pubs and shops, and you can even rent a canadian canoe to row down the river (I’m intending to come back and do this soon with a few friends).
